Beyond Exams

The three qualifying exams meet the Ofcom requirements for demonstrating technical and operational competency, the objective being to safeguard the radio spectrum and its users.

Obtaining a licence allows the licence holder to experience the wide range of amateur radio activities and the RSGB has introduced a guided program designed to accelerate that process. Known as the Beyond Exams Scheme, participating clubs enable their members to try up to 23 different aspects of the hobby designed to encourage greater interest in and expand the knowledge of the amateur community.

There are no exams, the participant has to show that they have achieved the necessary experience in each of the categories and there is a tiered series of certificates depending on how many of the 23 categories have been achieved.

The IoWRS has joined the RSGB Beyond Exams Scheme and is pleased to assist any of its members to progress through the process. [The Scheme is essentially a practical one, so Covid has delayed its launch within the club.]

But there is more…

Beyond Exams- building experience

Passing the foundation exam is just the first step to discovering great diversity of amateur radio.

As you progress to the intermediate and full licences, there is a range of activities that you can enjoy along the way.

Whether you are new to amateur radio, want to try a different aspect of the hobby or find a new challenge, our range of Beyond exam resources can help.
