JOTA-JOTI is the world’s largest digital and radio Scout event, promoting friendship and global citizenship
JOTA-JOTI is an annual event in which Scouts all over the world connect with each other by means of internet and amateur radio. Short-wave radio signals carry their voices to virtually any corner of the world.
It’s the sheer excitement of having a live conversation with a fellow Scout at some other place in the world that attracts so many young people to this event.
JOTA-JOTI is a real Jamboree during which Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared.
The use of amateur radio techniques offers an extra educational dimension for Scouts. Many boys and girls grasp the opportunity to discover the world of wireless radio techniques and electronics.
Every year the club participates in this activity and its members come along and spend a couple of days with the Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Brownies, Girl Guides and Rainbows at Corf Camp. Its a lot of fun but also, its a bit tiring!
Chris G7IVF and John G7MAR showed the kids how HF radios worked and had chats with other stations all over the world. The children were very engaged.
Mark G4DOT has his system for using the geostationary sattelite QO100 to talk to a substantial part of the world. He even had a good contact with Bletchley Park which was exciting.
Vectis Radio were there for the day and presented 3 shows from the OB unit and interviewed many of the volunteers and the children that were there for the day. He is our own rod G4ZUP being interviewed which Steve M0RQD the club chair was presenting (he is a volunteer for the radio station and is on the air on Fridays between 1 – 4)
Every one was very keen to promote the event and talk which made a nice change.
